Round at Barrack's place

Hello all!

So we arrived at Washington DC on Memorial day weekend and immediately got caught in a Hells Angels bike procession. When we say caught, we got stuck right in the middle of the road in our rented Chevy Cobalt. The police made us pull over and let them through but we did get a few funny looks (because we weren't wearing leather chaps!). DC is a great place though, very interesting with lots of history although we did start to get museum fatigue towards the end. The Smithsonian museums are fascinating and we did several, but there are so many of them and it would take forever to go around them all. We also discovered the delights of sweet potato pie, thanks to Deborah and her wonderful cafe.

The best place was the international Spy museum which had loads of real life gadgets used during the cold war by both the US and Russia, like umbrella guns, shoe bugs, lipstick pistols, microdots and and an interactive session where we foiled a plot to steal nuclear detonator. (Dad would be proud (more for kids really but we still might send our CV's to the CIA)).

We also went on a tour of the Capitol building, went up to the White House (chilled with Barrack for a while) and got tickets to go up the Washington monument which then got cancelled due to lightning and high winds, so we ended up watching Sex and the City 2 instead (Barrack couldn't come because he had to go for tea at his mums). We also met and stayed with Urvy's Cousin Umesh in Virginia for the night and met his wife Chitra and daughter Priti.

After that we had a truly painful 20 hr greyhound bus journey to Chicago with stops in Pittsburgh and Cleveland. We both smelled like a greyhound's armpit afterwards (do greyhounds have armpits?). We are just glad the agro woman behind us didn't "bosh" her son (or us-yikes!) when he fell asleep and wouldn't get off the coach.

Chicago & Wisconsin next!

Love Urvy and Pete,
